Butung 2-way Bag

₱1,750.00

Inspired by the shape of the "Butung" - a small triangular bag used by Ifugao men to keep their bettel nut, this 2-way version can be worn both as a tote and a handbag.  It  features a special wooden Ling Ling-O button (an Ifugao symbol of fertility and luck) that allows the handles to be connected together to make a long strap or tied together and secured to make a shorter handle.

Our two-way bag comes in 2 variants - Mustard/Black and Rust/Olive.   Each bag measures approximately 17 inches long x 18.5 inches high.  Do remember that each bag is uniquely hand knit and may vary slightly in size.

All our products are hand knit with love by a mama who also plants rice in the rice terraces in Ifugao!

Knitting Expedition was begun as a way to provide supplementary income for the women of Ifugao to maintain the rice terraces.  Instead of leaving the region to find better paying jobs, they are supported by the income from the sales of the products.  This allows them to stay and tend to the rice terraces that are not only an awe-inspiring legacy of their town but also of the Philippines and which has provided sustenance for generations of their families.  The brand Knitting Expedition also signifies the journey of founders, Candy and Aueeie, as knitters and the distance that the hand-knit products have to travel to make it to your homes.
